Under Decree-Law No. 9-A/95 of February 16, 1995, the public company of posts and telecommunications was split, officially creating Correios de Cabo Verde on January 1, 1995. Headquartered in Praia, the company has been a member of the Universal Postal Union since September 30, 1976.
